These are some of the properties and characteristics of the Riesling grape:
- Buds early season
- Not particularly susceptible to diseases except botrytis, fairly resistant to wind. Also fairly susceptible to sunburn
- Leaves are medium to large in size with rounded lobes. There are 5 lobes.
- Bunches are short and compact and small, the grapes are very juicy and the skin is soft and medium to thick.
- The berries are medium to small and round.
If someone gives you a glass of wine and asks you what wine it is, here are characteristics that will help you identify the varietal:
When young: spicy, peppery, blossoms, limes, mineral-type character. When a few years old (at its best): kerosene, limes, honey.
