“It’s like Christmas morning every time a club pack arrives. Unpacking each bottle, examining the labels, putting on the neck tags ... I’m like a kid in a sweet store.”
—M O’Donoghue, Newlands
“I don’t know if you have access to just how long I’ve been a member of your wine club, but it’s many years. Many years of wonderful good wines. I’ve genuinely never had a bad wine...”
—Walter Passet, Blue Horizon Bay
started the Wine Club in 1986, long before the days you could buy wine online. Why? Let’s face it. Wine can be intimidating. It’s difficult to try new ones and be sure they are top quality. But, how best do you do this?
Well, before I get to that - let me ask you three questions.
Did you answer ‘yes’ to any of these?
So, what is the best way to solve this problem without the risk of trying lots of ordinary and expensive wines? Easy...
• Get a panel of nine independent expert wine judges
• Ask them to taste and score all the wines blind
• Blind wine tasting ensures no judge is influenced by a label
• Place only the very best scoring wine in members’ packs
• Members get exclusive tasting notes and storage necktags
This way - we focus only on what’s important - what you taste in the glass. Because of this, when you join the Wine Club you get to try new wines - and you get quality and value for money at the same time.
Constantia Valley is known as Cape Town’s Vineyard—due to its proximity to the city as well as it being the oldest wine region in South Africa.
In 1684, Simon Van der Stel established Constantia as his farm. These days, of course, Constantia is split up into a number of working wine properties.
You can celebrate both its vinous and culinary bounty with the many annual festivals happening throughout the year.
Here are the wine estates of the Constantia Valley with a fascinating wine-bit about each of them.
Wine bit: The youngest on the vineyard block in this historic wine region, this farm was only developed after fires destroyed the fynbos and pine forests on the property in 2000. The first vineyards were planted in 2003.
