Pinotage

These are some of the properties and characteristics of the Pinotage grape:

  • Buds early September. The older clones are usually the last of this variety to ripen.
  • Susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis and very susceptible to downy mildew.
  • Leaves are oblong and have five lobes and are medium in size and dark green in colour.
  • The berries are small and oval. The skin is blue-black in colour and is fairly strong.

If someone gives you a glass of wine and asks you what wine it is, here are characteristics that will help you identify the varietal:

Star toffees, strawberries, raspberry jam, blackberries, pomegranates, bananas.
