Chenin Blanc

These are some of the properties and characteristics of the Chenin Blanc grape:

  • Moderately resistant to wind.
  • It buds in early September. Flowers in early November. Matures in the end of February which is mid season.
  • Sensitive to powdery mildew and very susceptible to botrytis.
  • Leaves are dark green, medium round and have no lobes to three lobes.
  • Berries are oval, are a greenish yellow and are small with a thinnish skin. The berries are very juicy.
If someone gives you a glass of wine and asks you what wine it is, here are characteristics that will help you identify the varietal:

Guavas, stewed apples, ripe pineapple, fresh fruit and, with age, honey.
