Veuve Du Vernay Ice Blanc Demi Sec
Veuve du Vernay is a French sparkling wine brand produced by Patriarche, the historic Burgundy-based wine producer founded in Beaune in 1780. The Veuve du Vernay range was established in 1960, and its sparkling wines are made from carefully selected base wines assembled before the second fermentation creates their characteristic fine bubbles. Veuve du Vernay Ice Blanc takes a deliberately modern approach to sparkling wine. A demi-sec blend of Ugni Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Folle Blanche, it is designed specifically to be served chilled over ice. The style focuses on fragrant freshness, fine bubbles and a gentle sweetness, making it an approachable French sparkling wine for relaxed occasions.
Colour: Pale yellow with attractive green tints and a lively stream of fine bubbles.
Nose: Fresh and delicate, with citrus and yellow-fruit aromas accompanied by light floral notes. The overall impression is bright and fragrant rather than heavily aromatic.
Palate: Lightly sweet and softly textured, with fresh citrus and yellow-fruit flavours followed by delicate honeyed and vinous notes. The fine bubbles give the wine lift, while its demi-sec character adds a gentle rounded sweetness. Freshness keeps the palate lively and prevents the sweetness from becoming heavy.
Finish: Smooth and mellow, with lingering citrus, floral and subtle honeyed flavours. The finish is clean, approachable and pleasantly refreshing when served well chilled.
- Food Pairing : The gentle sweetness and refreshing bubbles make Veuve du Vernay Ice Blanc particularly suited to light appetisers, fresh fruit, sushi, mildly spicy Asian dishes and desserts such as lemon tart or fresh berries with cream. The sweetness can soften chilli heat, while the bubbles and citrus freshness provide a refreshing contrast to richer or creamy foods. It is equally well suited to being served over ice as an aperitif, which is the style for which this demi-sec sparkling wine was created.
- Drink before: Cellaring potential: Best enjoyed young and fresh rather than cellared.
