Survivor Pinotage Reserve 2023
Survivor Wines began with a bold story in the rugged Swartland, where ancient soils, maritime breezes and low-yielding bush vines produce deeply flavoured red wines that speak of place. The Reserve Pinotage 2023 is crafted from carefully selected parcels within this dynamic region, where warm days and cool nights encourage ripe dark fruit with fresh acidity. With hand-harvesting, extended oak maturation and attentive winemaking, Survivor balances robust varietal character with refined structure - a wine that reflects both the energy of its site and the dedication of its cellar team. (general stylistic context drawn from Survivor’s range and Swartland Pinotage tradition).
Colour: Intense dark red - a sign of concentrated fruit and firm structure.
Nose: Aromas of fresh red and black berries mingle with cinnamon-spice and ripe plum, balanced by hints of vanilla and soft oak from quality barrel ageing.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, the palate brings sappy black plum, cherries and blueberry compote, with spice weaving through the fruit. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity give shape while oak nuances add cedar and subtle coconut-like warmth.
Finish: Long and layered, with lingering dark fruit, spice and a freshness that keeps the wine engaging from first sip to final echo.
- Food Pairing : Survivor Reserve Pinotage 2023 pairs beautifully with richly flavoured dishes that match its depth and structured tannins. Try it with braised springbok shank with creamy mash and green beans - the savoury meat and reductions mirror the wine’s dark fruit and spice. Rosemary-sprinkled Karoo lamb chops also resonate with its structured profile and subtle oak spice, while a robust beef potjie with root vegetables amplifies the wine’s silky tannins and lingering finish. For a plant-centric option, seared portobello steaks with a rich balsamic glaze will balance the wine’s fruit intensity with umami depth.
