Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch, Stellekaya has built a reputation for crafting small-batch red wines that combine Old World structure with New World fruit expression. Founded in 1998, the estate focuses almost exclusively on red varieties, allowing meticulous attention to detail from vineyard to bottle. The Stellenbosch region offers an ideal environment for Malbec, with warm days encouraging full flavour development and cooler evening temperatures helping to preserve freshness and balance. At Stellekaya, fruit is carefully selected and traditionally vinified before maturation in French oak barrels, resulting in wines that express both varietal character and the nuances of the Stellenbosch terroir. The philosophy is straightforward: produce authentic, age-worthy wines that reflect place rather than winemaking intervention.
Colour: Deep ruby with a youthful purple edge, showing impressive concentration in the glass.
Nose: Aromatic layers of black plum, blackberry and ripe cherry are complemented by notes of violet, dark chocolate, cedar spice and a subtle hint of tobacco leaf.
Palate: The palate is rich yet composed, with generous dark berry fruit supported by fine-grained tannins. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum and cocoa unfold alongside savoury spice and well-integrated oak. Fresh acidity keeps the wine focused and prevents the fruit from feeling heavy.
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, gentle spice and a dry, polished tannin structure that encourages another sip.
