Snow Mountain Wines sources fruit from carefully selected vineyards across the Western Cape, a region renowned for its diverse climates and soils. This varied terroir allows winemakers to produce wines that express both ripe fruit character and regional freshness. The Snow Mountain range focuses on approachable, well-made wines that reflect modern South African winemaking, combining careful vineyard selection with thoughtful cellar practices. For the Snow Mountain Merlot 2024, the grapes were harvested at full ripeness before undergoing extended skin contact and a slow fermentation, followed by 11 months of maturation in French oak to add subtle complexity and structure.
Colour: Deep ruby red with youthful purple highlights.
Nose: Aromatic and inviting, with notes of raspberries, cassis and ripe plum, supported by hints of sweet spice and subtle oak influence.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with generous dark berry fruit at its core. Flavours of blackcurrant, raspberry and plum are layered with gentle spice from oak maturation. The tannins are soft and rounded, giving the wine a smooth texture while maintaining enough structure to keep it focused and fresh.
Finish: Persistent and fruit-driven, finishing with lingering cassis and delicate spice notes.
