Snow Mountain Wines was established by winemaker James McKenzie, whose vision is to create wines that reflect the diversity and character of the Western Cape's vineyards. Based in Stellenbosch and sourcing fruit from carefully selected vineyard sites, the winery focuses on expressing both varietal purity and regional identity. The Snow Mountain name pays homage to the Sneeuberg mountains overlooking Wellington, where winter snow is a striking feature of the landscape. The Snow Mountain Chardonnay 2025 is produced from a single vineyard block and follows a thoughtful winemaking approach. Grapes are harvested at low temperatures, carefully sorted, and barrel fermented before spending 11 months in older French oak barrels. Extended lees contact contributes texture and depth while allowing the fruit and mineral character of the vineyard to remain at the forefront.
Colour: Bright straw gold with youthful green highlights and excellent clarity.
Nose: Fresh lime, lemon peel and citrus blossom lead the aromatics, followed by subtle notes of vanilla, toasted nuts and gentle buttery oak. A faint mineral edge adds freshness and complexity.
Palate: Medium-bodied and textured, with flavours of citrus, ripe stone fruit and a touch of creamy oak. The extended lees ageing brings richness to the mid-palate, while the wine retains a clean mineral core that keeps it focused and food-friendly.
Finish: Long and persistent, finishing with lingering citrus, gentle oak spice and a savoury mineral note.
