Short Story Coll. Owl Post Pinotage 2021 (Diners)
The Short Story Collection Owl Post Pinotage 2021 is produced by Neethlingshof Wine Estate, a historic Stellenbosch farm whose winemaking heritage dates back to 1692. Located on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills near Stellenbosch, the estate benefits from varied soils, favourable slopes and cooling maritime influence from False Bay - conditions well suited to producing structured, expressive wines.
Neethlingshofâs Short Story Collection celebrates the estateâs environmental philosophy. The Owl Post Pinotage is inspired by the farmâs biodiversity programme, where owl boxes are installed throughout the vineyards to attract owls that naturally control rodents, reducing the need for pesticides.
Fruit for this wine is grown on the estate and vinified in the Neethlingshof cellar under the guidance of winemaker Mika Engelbrecht. The approach focuses on expressing the richness of Pinotage while maintaining structure and balance through careful oak maturation and thoughtful vineyard management.
Â
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dense, youthful core.
Â
Nose:
Aromas of black plum, mulberry and raspberry lead the bouquet, supported by notes of dark chocolate, subtle white pepper and a touch of smoky oak.
Â
Palate:
Full-bodied with concentrated flavours of black plum, cherry and blueberry. The fruit is layered with mocha and toasted oak, while fine, chalky tannins provide structure and depth.
Â
Finish:
Long and structured, finishing with lingering dark fruit, earthy notes and gentle spice.
- Food Pairing : The structure and dark fruit character of Short Story Collection Owl Post Pinotage 2021 from Neethlingshof Wine Estate make it well suited to rich, savoury dishes. It pairs particularly well with slow-braised meats such as oxtail or venison, where the wineâs tannins soften against the richness of the dish. The smoky and mocha notes also complement braaied lamb chops or grilled steak. For something more aromatic, Cape Malay lamb curry works beautifully, while mature cheeses like cheddar or gruyĂšre highlight the wineâs depth and savoury complexity.
