Saronsberg Lady at the Water Rose 2025
Saronsberg Cellar lies in the Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by mountains in the Upper Breede River Valley. The valley's distinctive topography creates a range of vineyard conditions, with differences in elevation, aspect, soils, rainfall and temperature contributing to varied expressions of fruit. Saronsberg's vineyards include soils such as Koffieklip, Tukulu and Glencoe, and the estate places a strong emphasis on understanding and expressing this distinctive landscape. The Lady at the Water Rosé takes its name from the sculpture by South African artist Angus Taylor that overlooks Saronsberg's dam. The 2025 vintage comes from Shiraz planted on Koffieklip, Tukulu and Glencoe soils. The grapes were hand-harvested in the early morning, chilled before processing and given just 1–2 hours of skin contact. Only free-run juice was used, followed by cool fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, a gentle approach designed to retain the wine's fresh fruit and aromatic character. A small addition of dry Muscat adds an extra lift to the aromatics.
Colour: A delicate rose-petal pink with a bright, youthful appearance.
Nose: Expressive aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries lead into notes of litchi and delicate florals. There is a freshness to the fruit that keeps the aromatics lifted rather than sweet or heavy.
Palate: Rounded and creamy in texture, with a soft, generous mouthfeel. Strawberry and cherry flavours carry through from the nose, while bright acidity provides freshness and keeps the wine lively. The dry finish gives the fruit a clean, refreshing edge.
Finish: Fresh and crisp, with lingering red berry and cherry flavours and a subtle floral note.
- Food Pairing : The fresh acidity and rounded texture make Saronsberg Lady at the Water Rosé 2025 an easy partner for grilled prawns, sushi, fresh summer salads, chicken dishes and Mediterranean-style mezze. Its red-fruit character works particularly well with lightly spiced food, while the dry, refreshing finish helps cut through richer elements such as creamy dips, grilled seafood or charcuterie.
- Drink before: Cellaring potential: Best enjoyed young, while its fresh fruit and lively acidity are at their most expressive.
