Saronsberg Cellar is situated in the Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by mountains that give this inland region a distinctive growing environment. The estate's De Steen Chenin Blanc comes from a single Chenin Blanc block planted in 2005, directly in front of the cellar and tasting room. The vineyard is planted in structured red soils with coarse gravel, while the wine takes its name from the shale-rich character of the site, which contributes to its focused, textured style. The 2025 grapes were hand-harvested in the early hours of the morning and cooled before being gently pressed. The juice was fermented in 500-litre French oak barrels, using second-, third- and fourth-fill barrels, and remained on its gross lees for seven months. The final wine combines 80% barrel-fermented and matured Chenin with 20% fermented and aged in stainless steel, giving the wine both richness and freshness.

Colour: Bright straw yellow with a youthful, clear appearance.
Nose: Aromas of ripe stone fruit, white pear and apricot lead the way, with subtle citrus notes adding freshness and lift.
Palate: Medium-bodied and gently rounded, with a creamy, velvety texture. Ripe pear, apricot and stone-fruit flavours are balanced by fresh acidity, while the measured oak influence adds depth and a gentle savoury richness without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Lively and refreshing, with lingering stone fruit, citrus freshness and a subtle creamy oak note.

  • Food Pairing : The combination of fresh acidity, creamy texture and restrained oak makes Saronsberg De Steen Chenin Blanc 2025 particularly versatile with roast or grilled chicken, creamy seafood pasta, grilled line fish, pork fillet and mild Thai or Cape Malay-style curries. The acidity keeps richer dishes feeling fresh, while the ripe stone-fruit character and gentle oak work naturally with lightly spiced, roasted and creamy flavours.
  • Drink before: Cellaring potential: Best enjoyed over the next 2–4 years, although its freshness and oak-derived texture should allow it to develop gracefully in bottle.
  • Vintage: 2025
  • Region: Tulbagh, Western Cape
  • Grapes used to make this wine were grown in: Structured red soils with coarse gravel.
  • Sugar Content: 1.8g/L
  • Alcohol Content: 12.53%
