Robberg Distillery is a small craft distillery situated on a farm in the heart of Plettenberg Bay along South Africa's Garden Route. Named after the nearby Robberg Peninsula, the distillery was established with a focus on small-batch spirits and an experimental approach to local botanicals. Everything from distillation through to bottling and labelling is done by hand. The Robberg Distillery Olive Gin starts with a traditional dry gin and is infused with matured olives from the Southern Cape. Its botanical selection also includes rosemary, basil, thyme, citrus, coriander and juniper, creating a distinctly savoury interpretation of gin. The result is a spirit that moves beyond the usual citrus-and-floral profile, placing olive and Mediterranean-style herbs at the centre of the flavour.
Colour: Crystal clear and bright in the glass.
Nose: Classic juniper provides the foundation, followed by fresh olive, citrus and aromatic herbs. Rosemary, basil and thyme add a distinctly savoury, Mediterranean character.
Palate: Dry and clean, with juniper and citrus balanced by a pronounced olive note. Herbal flavours of rosemary, basil and thyme add savoury complexity, while coriander brings a subtle spice element. The profile is distinctive without losing the freshness and structure expected from a traditional dry gin.
Finish: Clean and lingering, with savoury olive, juniper and herbal notes remaining on the palate alongside a gentle citrus freshness.
