Ridgeback Wines is a boutique producer perched on the northern foothills of Paarl Mountain, crafting expressive wines that balance fruit intensity with thoughtful winemaking. Founded in the late 1990s, the estate embraces both classic and contemporary approaches, letting site expression guide decisions in the vineyard and cellar. Its Chenin Blanc 2020 reflects this ethos: predominantly Chenin Blanc with a touch of Viognier for aromatic breadth, handled with care to preserve varietal character.
The grapes were whole-berry pressed and the wine spent time in French oak (about 20% new) to develop texture without overwhelming freshness. This blend of fruit purity, subtle oak and Paarl terroir produces a white wine with both vibrancy and shape - rich enough to be interesting, yet crisp and refreshing.
