Ridgeback Wines sits on the northern slopes of the Paarl mountains in the Western Cape, where warm days and cool nights help Cabernet Franc develop ripe, expressive fruit alongside savoury complexity. Named after the iconic Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, the estate blends South African viticultural character with a thoughtful winemaking approach that emphasises vineyard expression and structural balance. The 2022 Cabernet Franc is crafted from well-sited Paarl blocks, matured in French oak to lend texture and subtle spice without masking the varietal’s purity.
Colour: A clear, medium-deep ruby red, reflecting its varietal finesse.
Nose: Prominent blackcurrant and mulberry aromas are underlined by green peppercorn and black olive notes, with hints of cedar spice and earth adding depth.
Palate: Medium-bodied and layered, the palate shows juicy dark fruit framed by refined tannins and lively acidity. Mineral undertones and gentle oak spice give structure without overwhelming the core fruit.
Finish: The finish is extended and dry, with lingering red fruit and a savoury, mineral thread that invites another sip.
