Opstal Sixpence Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Nestled in the Slanghoek Valley near Rawsonville, Opstal Estate has been farmed by the Louw family for generations. Surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges, the valley benefits from warm days and cool evening temperatures that help grapes develop ripe fruit flavours while retaining freshness. The Sixpence range honours Daniel "Sixpence" Smiles, a shepherd who worked on the farm during the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the generations of farm workers who have helped shape Opstal's story. Today, the range reflects the estate's commitment to producing approachable, honest wines that celebrate both place and people. Sustainability, ethical farming and community development remain central to the estate's philosophy.
Colour: Pale straw with subtle green highlights, bright and youthful in appearance.
Nose: Expressive aromas of passion fruit, melon and ripe peach lead the bouquet, supported by hints of citrus zest and fresh-cut herbs. The Sémillon component adds a gentle rounded fruit character beneath the vibrant Sauvignon Blanc aromatics.
Palate: Fresh and lively, with flavours of tropical fruit, peach and melon carried through from the nose. Bright acidity gives the wine energy and lift, while the Sémillon contributes texture and softness, creating a fuller mouthfeel than a typical Sauvignon Blanc.
Finish: Clean and refreshing, with lingering tropical fruit notes and a rounded, fruit-driven finish that invites another sip.
- Food Pairing : The Opstal Sixpence Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a versatile food wine that works particularly well with fresh seafood, grilled line fish, chicken salads, creamy pasta dishes and sushi. Its vibrant acidity cuts through richer textures, while the Sémillon component adds enough weight to complement creamy sauces and fuller-flavoured dishes. The tropical fruit character also pairs beautifully with summer salads and lightly spiced Cape Malay-inspired cuisine, making it an easy choice for relaxed outdoor dining.
