Nestled in the Slanghoek Valley within the Breedekloof wine region, Opstal Estate has been farmed by the Louw family for seven generations. Surrounded by rugged mountain ranges, the vineyards benefit from warm days, cool evenings and well-drained soils that encourage even ripening while preserving freshness. The estate combines generations of farming knowledge with a modern, thoughtful approach to winemaking, producing wines that reflect both place and heritage. The Opstal Cabernet Sauvignon Cinsault 2025 celebrates a classic South African blend. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth, while mature Cinsault vines, planted in 1997, contribute vibrant aromatics, juicy fruit and lift. The grapes were fermented in open-top concrete tanks, with 55% of the Cinsault fermented as whole bunches before the wine completed full malolactic fermentation, creating a fresh, expressive and approachable red.
Colour: Bright ruby red with youthful purple highlights.
Nose: Aromatic notes of red cherry and black cherry take centre stage, supported by subtle hints of fresh herbs and gentle spice.
Palate: Light- to medium-bodied with vibrant red and dark berry fruit, lively acidity and soft, supple tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure, while the Cinsault adds freshness and energy, resulting in a wine that is elegant rather than heavy.
Finish: Clean and refreshing, with lingering juicy cherry fruit, delicate herbal notes and a smooth, savoury finish.
