Old Pulteney 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
Whisky : Scottish
Description
Old Pulteney Distillery is located in the coastal town of Wick in the far north of Scotland, an area historically tied to the North Sea fishing industry and renowned for its rugged maritime climate. Established in 1826, the distillery has become closely associated with a distinctly coastal Highland whisky style, often referred to as “The Maritime Malt” due to the influence of sea air and the warehouse conditions in which the spirit matures.
The 15-Year-Old expression reflects Old Pulteney’s balanced approach to maturation, combining time spent in ex-bourbon casks with further ageing in Spanish oak casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry. This dual maturation adds depth and warmth while preserving the distillery’s hallmark freshness and saline character. The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, allowing greater texture and complexity to remain intact in the glass.
Colour:
Warm amber gold with polished copper highlights.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of dried fruit, honey and orange peel are layered with vanilla, dark toffee and subtle sea spray notes. Gentle warming spice and toasted oak develop as the whisky opens in the glass.
Palate:
Rich and rounded, with flavours of caramel, baked apple and honey balanced by notes of dark chocolate, cinnamon and salted nuts. The mouthfeel is smooth and textured, while the maritime influence brings freshness and subtle salinity that keeps the whisky focused rather than overly sweet.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering spice, oak, citrus peel and a gentle coastal salinity on the finish.

- Food Pairing : Old Pulteney 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky pairs particularly well with rich, savoury dishes and mature cheeses that complement its coastal depth and warming spice. Smoked salmon, chargrilled steak or slow-braised lamb all work beautifully, while the whisky’s honeyed richness also makes it a natural companion to dark chocolate desserts or sticky toffee pudding. For a simpler pairing, aged cheddar or smoked almonds allow the whisky’s maritime character and layered oak spice to shine.
