Neil Ellis Amica Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Neil Ellis Wines has long been recognised for its site-specific approach to winemaking, sourcing fruit from vineyards best suited to each varietal rather than relying on a single estate. The Amica range reflects this philosophy, focusing on wines that are approachable, expressive and rooted in their origin. For the Neil Ellis Amica Sauvignon Blanc 2022, grapes are sourced primarily from the cool-climate Groenekloof area near Darling on the Cape West Coast. Constant ocean breezes and morning fog help preserve natural acidity and aromatic intensity, while the region's ancient soils contribute purity and freshness. The winemaking is deliberately restrained, allowing the vineyard character and vibrant fruit profile to take centre stage.
Colour: Pale straw with bright green reflections, youthful and vibrant in appearance.
Nose: Expressive aromas of gooseberry, granadilla and lime zest are complemented by notes of green apple, fresh-cut herbs and a subtle mineral character.
Palate: Fresh and lively with flavours of tropical fruit, citrus and green melon. The palate is clean and focused, driven by bright acidity that provides energy and definition. Fruit intensity is balanced by a gentle saline note that adds complexity without detracting from the wine's easy-drinking appeal.
Finish: Clean and persistent, leaving lingering citrus, passion fruit and a refreshing mineral edge.
- Food Pairing : The bright acidity and fresh fruit profile of the Neil Ellis Amica Sauvignon Blanc 2022 make it a natural partner for seafood and lighter dishes. It pairs particularly well with grilled snoek, fresh oysters, sushi, chicken salads and goat's cheese tart. The wine's citrus-driven character enhances delicate flavours, while its crisp finish refreshes the palate between bites. It also works beautifully with lightly spiced Cape Malay seafood dishes where freshness and aromatic lift are key.
