Myburgh Bros Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2025
Myburgh Bros is a family-owned project created by Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh of Joostenberg Wines. Inspired by their family's farming and winemaking history dating back to the 1800s, the range focuses on honest, approachable wines made from carefully selected vineyards around Paarl. The Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2025 is sourced from dry-farmed bush vines planted in 1984 on the south-western side of Paarl, qualifying as a Certified Heritage Vineyard under South Africa's Old Vine Project. The wine is hand-harvested in multiple passes to capture both natural freshness and full flavour ripeness. Fermentation takes place with wild yeast in stainless steel tanks, followed by five months on the lees. With no oak influence, the focus remains firmly on the vineyard character and the vibrant expression of Chenin Blanc.
Colour: Pale straw with bright green highlights, showing youthful freshness in the glass.
Nose: Expressive aromas of crisp apple, white peach, pear and green melon lead the bouquet, with subtle hints of citrus peel and a gentle mineral note adding complexity.
Palate: Fresh and vibrant, with flavours of orchard fruit, white peach and lemon carried by lively acidity. Time on the lees adds texture and weight, while the absence of oak allows the fruit purity and vineyard character to shine through. The wine is energetic without being sharp, offering both refreshment and substance.
Finish: Clean, dry and persistent, with lingering apple, citrus and subtle mineral notes that invite another sip.
- Food Pairing : Myburgh Bros Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2025 is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with grilled line fish, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, pork loin and Cape Malay-inspired cuisine. The wine's bright acidity refreshes the palate alongside richer dishes, while its textured mid-palate complements creamy sauces and roasted flavours. Its citrus and orchard-fruit character also works particularly well with seafood and lightly spiced dishes, making it an easy choice for a wide range of South African meals.
