At the foothills of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, Morgenster Estate is a distinctive Cape wine property shaped by both South African terroir and Italian heritage. The estate rose to prominence under the stewardship of Italian entrepreneur Giulio Bertrand, whose vision combined Bordeaux varieties with Mediterranean inspiration.
The Helderberg slopes offer a powerful combination of cool ocean influence from nearby False Bay, decomposed granite soils, and steady mountain breezes. These conditions help grapes ripen slowly, preserving freshness while allowing deep flavour development.
Morgenster’s winemaking philosophy focuses on classical varietals handled with restraint. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and the wines are matured in oak for around 12 months, allowing structure and spice to integrate while preserving the vibrant fruit character typical of Cabernet Franc grown in Stellenbosch.
The result is a wine that reflects both the estate’s European sensibility and the natural richness of the Helderberg.

Deep ruby red with youthful purple edges, suggesting freshness and concentration.
Nose:
Bright aromas of raspberry and redcurrant lead the bouquet, followed by black pepper, clove spice and a subtle herbal note typical of Cabernet Franc.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and fruit-driven with flavours of red berries and plum. The tannins are fine and silky, giving the wine structure without heaviness, while a gentle savoury edge adds complexity.
Finish:
Clean and smooth with lingering red fruit and a delicate peppery spice.
