Mont Rochelle Miko White Chardonnay 2025
Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards is situated in Franschhoek, one of South Africa’s historic wine-growing valleys. Surrounded by mountain slopes, the region offers varied vineyard elevations and growing conditions that can contribute both ripe fruit character and freshness to its wines. MIKO is Mont Rochelle’s premium wine range, and the MIKO White 2025 is presented by the estate as a Chardonnay with a more layered, oak-influenced style. Its combination of stone fruit, citrus and a creamy, toasted-oak character gives it greater texture than a purely fresh, unoaked white wine. The estate’s published tasting notes highlight careful use of oak alongside fruit and mineral character, allowing the Chardonnay to develop richness and complexity without losing its sense of freshness.
Colour: Straw green with golden hues, showing a bright appearance with a hint of richness.
Nose: Ripe stone fruit leads, with notes of peach and nectarine complemented by fresh lime and orange peel. Hints of almond and marzipan add a delicate nutty character, while subtle toasted-oak aromas bring warmth and complexity.
Palate: Rich and layered, with stone fruit and citrus flavours supported by a creamy texture and elegant toasted-oak notes. The fruit brings generosity, while a mineral edge adds definition and helps keep the wine focused. The result is a textured Chardonnay that balances richness with freshness.
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering citrus, ripe stone fruit, toasted almond and a subtle mineral note.
- Food Pairing : Mont Rochelle MIKO White 2025 pairs particularly well with grilled prawns in lemon butter, where the wine’s creamy texture complements the seafood while its citrus notes lift the richness. Roast chicken with thyme and garlic is another excellent choice, as the gentle oak character works beautifully with golden, roasted skin. For something more indulgent, try creamy mushroom risotto or pan-fried line fish with a beurre blanc sauce. A butternut and sage tart also makes a lovely vegetarian pairing, bringing out the wine’s ripe stone fruit and toasted almond notes.
