Mont Rochelle Chardonnay 2025
Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards is situated in the Franschhoek Valley, surrounded by the dramatic mountain slopes that help define this celebrated South African wine region. The area's varied elevations and Mediterranean climate influence grape ripening, while the estate's established vineyards offer a distinctive expression of Franschhoek's terroir. The Mont Rochelle Chardonnay 2025 comes from the estate's original Chardonnay vineyard, planted in 1994. Winemaker Michael Langenhoven takes a measured approach to oak, combining French oak maturation with cement egg ageing to bring texture and complexity while preserving freshness. The grapes are gently whole-bunch pressed, and extended lees contact adds depth to the wine. The result is a fruit-forward Chardonnay with a more European sensibility, where ripe fruit, integrated oak and refreshing acidity work together without one dominating the others.
Colour: Pale straw yellow with delicate golden hues and a bright, clear appearance.
Nose: White pear, ripe stone fruit and pineapple lead, with lemon curd and orange zest adding a citrus lift. Subtle marzipan notes bring a gentle almond-like complexity.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with flavours of citrus, white pear and ripe stone fruit. Bright, focused acidity gives the wine freshness, while integrated French oak and lees contact contribute a rounded texture and gentle richness. The fruit remains expressive, with a mineral edge adding definition to the palate.
Finish: Long and refreshing, with lingering citrus, stone fruit and a subtle mineral character, supported by a delicate, well-integrated oak note.
- Food Pairing : Mont Rochelle Chardonnay 2025 pairs beautifully with grilled line fish, roast chicken with lemon and herbs, creamy mushroom pasta or pan-fried prawns with garlic butter. Its lively acidity cuts through richer sauces, while the ripe pear and stone-fruit flavours complement seafood and poultry. The subtle oak and creamy texture also make it a good match for mildly flavoured hard cheeses or a simple roast vegetable tart.
