Mary Le Bow 2021
Blend : Red
Description
Mary Le Bow 2021 is produced by The Drift Estate, the Overberg farm owned by acclaimed South African winemaker Bruce Jack and his family. Situated near Napier, the estate benefits from a cooler climate shaped by nearby ocean breezes, allowing grapes to ripen gradually while retaining freshness and natural balance. This slower growing season contributes to wines with structure, concentration and restraint rather than excessive ripeness.
Â
Bruce Jackâs approach at The Drift focuses on authenticity, sustainability and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. The vineyards are farmed with long-term soil health in mind, while gentle extraction and considered oak maturation help preserve clarity of fruit and regional character. Mary Le Bow 2021 combines Bordeaux varietals with a touch of Shiraz, creating a wine that balances richness and savoury complexity with freshness and drinkability.
Â
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a youthful purple edge.
Â
Nose:
Blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark cherry aromas lead the nose, followed by hints of cedar, cocoa and dried herbs. Subtle spice, graphite and a touch of fynbos add further complexity.
Â
Palate:
Full-bodied yet composed, with layers of black fruit supported by firm but polished tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, Malbec adds richness and plush texture, while Petit Verdot contributes depth and perfume. The Shiraz component brings a gentle savoury spice that lifts the wine without dominating it. Fresh acidity keeps the palate focused and balanced.
Â
Finish:
Long and dry, with lingering notes of cassis, dark chocolate and savoury spice.

Mary Le Bow 2021
- Food Pairing : Mary Le Bow 2021 pairs comfortably with slow-roasted lamb, grilled sirloin or rich beef casseroles, where the wineâs tannin structure and dark fruit complement hearty flavours. It also works well alongside venison, roasted mushrooms or smoky aubergine dishes, with the wineâs savoury spice and freshness helping to balance richness. Mature cheeses such as aged Gouda or Cheddar bring out the wineâs earthy and cocoa-like notes without overpowering its fruit profile.
