Ken Forrester Petit Pinotage 2023
Ken Forrester Wines is based on the historic Scholtzenhof farm in the heart of Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s most respected wine regions. The estate sits on the slopes of the Helderberg, where decomposed granite soils, cooling maritime breezes from False Bay, and warm daytime temperatures create ideal conditions for ripening structured red varieties.
Since taking ownership of the farm in 1993, Ken and Teresa Forrester have built a reputation for wines that combine classic European sensibility with unmistakable South African character. While the estate is widely known for Chenin Blanc, the red wines - including Pinotage - reflect the same philosophy: careful vineyard selection, thoughtful winemaking, and wines that prioritise drinkability over heavy-handed extraction.
The Petit range is designed to showcase varietal character in a more approachable style, offering wines that are expressive, balanced and ready to enjoy while still reflecting Stellenbosch’s distinctive terroir.
Colour:
Deep ruby with youthful purple edges, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose:
Ripe red plum and black cherry lead the aromas, followed by hints of mulberry, baking spice and a light touch of smoky oak.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and supple, the palate shows juicy red and dark berry fruit layered with gentle spice and a subtle earthy note. Tannins are soft and well-integrated, giving the wine structure without heaviness, while fresh acidity keeps the fruit lively and balanced.
Finish:
Smooth and lingering, with notes of plum, soft spice and a light savoury edge.
- Food Pairing : The Ken Forrester Petit Pinotage 2023 pairs comfortably with everyday South African favourites. Its moderate structure and ripe fruit make it a natural match for braaied boerewors with tomato relish, where the wine’s acidity lifts the richness of the sausage. It also works well with sticky barbecue chicken, lamb burgers, or roasted aubergine with smoky spices, as the gentle tannins and juicy fruit complement both grilled flavours and savoury dishes without overpowering them.
