Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay 2024
Produced by Jordan Wine Estate, the Nine Yards Chardonnay represents the finest expression of Chardonnay from the estate's best vineyard sites in Stellenbosch Kloof. Situated between the cooling influences of False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the estate benefits from a unique maritime climate that moderates summer temperatures and allows grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness. The vineyards are planted on ancient decomposed granite soils, with east- and south-facing slopes particularly well suited to Chardonnay. The Nine Yards Chardonnay is crafted from a barrel selection of the estate's top Chardonnay lots. Fermentation and maturation take place in French oak barrels, with extended lees ageing adding texture and complexity. The result is a Chardonnay that balances concentration and richness with precision and elegance, reflecting both the vineyard and the Jordan family's long-standing commitment to site-driven winemaking.
Colour: Bright straw gold with brilliant clarity and subtle golden highlights.
Nose: Expressive aromas of lime zest, lemon curd and ripe pear lead the bouquet, followed by notes of white peach, citrus blossom and delicate oak spice. Hints of brioche, toasted almond and vanilla emerge with time in the glass.
Palate: The palate is concentrated and textural, showing layers of citrus, stone fruit and baked apple. A creamy mid-palate from lees ageing is balanced by vibrant acidity, giving the wine both richness and freshness. The oak is finely integrated, contributing structure and complexity without overshadowing the fruit.
Finish: Long and poised, with lingering notes of citrus peel, toasted nuts and subtle spice carried by a clean mineral thread.
- Food Pairing : Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay 2024 pairs beautifully with grilled crayfish, roasted kingklip, creamy mushroom risotto and herb-roasted chicken. Its richness and subtle oak complement buttery sauces and roasted flavours, while the bright acidity keeps the palate refreshed. The wine's balance of citrus freshness and savoury complexity also makes it an excellent partner for pork loin, veal dishes and mature hard cheeses, where its texture and structure can shine alongside richer flavours.
