Jordan Black Magic Merlot 2023
Jordan Wine Estate lies on the rolling hills of Stellenbosch, where diverse slopes, ancient decomposed granite soils and cooling maritime influences create ideal conditions for growing classic grape varieties. Owned and managed by Gary and Kathy Jordan since 1993, the estate has built a reputation for combining careful vineyard management with a thoughtful, modern approach to winemaking. The vineyards for Jordan Black Magic Merlot 2023 are planted on mature east- and west-facing slopes, allowing the fruit to develop both concentration and freshness. Gentle extraction during fermentation and maturation in French oak help preserve the character of the Merlot while adding subtle complexity and texture. The result is a wine that reflects both the richness of Stellenbosch and Jordan Wine Estate's measured, vineyard-led philosophy.
Colour: Deep ruby red with a youthful crimson edge.
Nose: Ripe red plum and black cherry lead the aromas, followed by hints of dark bitter chocolate, cedar spice and a subtle savoury note from oak maturation.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture. Layers of juicy plum and dark berry fruit are supported by fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. French oak contributes gentle spice and structure without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish: Long and polished, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, ripe plum and soft spice.
- Food Pairing : Jordan Black Magic Merlot 2023 pairs naturally with dishes that echo its generous fruit and supple tannin structure. Try it with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, beef burgers cooked over the braai, mushroom risotto or pork belly with a rich glaze. The wine's velvety texture complements savoury, slow-cooked flavours, while its freshness prevents richer dishes from feeling heavy. For a simpler pairing, mature cheddar or Gouda works particularly well with the wine's plum and dark chocolate notes.
