Joostenberg Fairhead White Blend 2024
The Joostenberg Estate Fairhead White Blend 2024 comes from Joostenberg Estate in the south-western corner of Paarl, where decomposed granite and clay shale soils combine with cooling ocean breezes from the nearby Atlantic. These conditions help preserve freshness and aromatic complexity while allowing the grapes to ripen fully. Owned by the Myburgh family since 1879, Joostenberg is recognised as one of South Africa's leading organic wine estates. The Fairhead blend is named after Gillian Fairhead Myburgh, former family matriarch and passionate gardener, and serves as a tribute to the women who have shaped the estate's history. Made from all the white grape varieties grown on the farm, the wine captures a unique expression of both vintage and place. Hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation before maturing in a combination of clay amphorae, concrete eggs and seasoned oak barrels, creating texture and complexity while preserving purity of fruit.
Colour: Bright straw gold with youthful clarity and subtle green highlights.
Nose: Expressive aromas of honeysuckle, white blossoms, peach, apricot and citrus peel are complemented by notes of apple crumble, lemon meringue, fynbos and gentle spice.
Palate: Medium-bodied with impressive texture and concentration. Stone fruit, ripe pear and citrus flavours are layered with savoury complexity and a delicate waxy richness. The Chenin Blanc provides freshness, while the Roussanne and Viognier contribute depth and aromatic lift. Alvarinho adds a bright line of acidity that keeps the wine focused and energetic.
Finish: Long, dry and gently savoury, with lingering floral notes, citrus zest and subtle spice.
- Food Pairing : The Joostenberg Estate Fairhead White Blend 2024 pairs beautifully with roast chicken, line fish, creamy seafood pasta, pork belly and Mediterranean-inspired vegetable dishes. Its combination of freshness and texture allows it to handle richer foods while remaining lively on the palate. The wine's floral aromatics and stone-fruit character complement subtle spice particularly well, making it an excellent partner for peri-peri chicken, herb-roasted vegetables or grilled seafood. The dry finish and bright acidity help refresh the palate between bites, making it a versatile choice for the table.
