Joostenberg Estate Family Blend 2022
Joostenberg Estate lies in the south-western reaches of the Paarl wine region, positioned between Paarl Mountain, the Paardeberg, Simonsberg and Durbanville. This location benefits from a combination of decomposed granite and clay-rich soils, together with cooling maritime influences that help preserve freshness and balance in the vineyards. The estate has been owned by the Myburgh family since 1879 and is recognised as one of South Africa's pioneering organic wine farms. Today, brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh continue a philosophy centred on sustainable farming, healthy soils and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. The Joostenberg Estate Family Blend 2022 reflects this approach: organically grown grapes, hand harvesting, gentle extraction and maturation in a combination of seasoned oak and stainless steel to preserve purity and drinkability. The result is a wine that captures the generosity of Paarl while remaining fresh, expressive and approachable.
Colour: Bright ruby red with youthful crimson highlights.
Nose: Red berries, wild strawberries and ripe cherries lead the aromatics, followed by notes of potpourri, fennel, dried herbs, cured meat and subtle spice.
Palate: Medium-bodied and supple, with flavours of red plum, cherry and blackberry supported by fresh acidity and fine, unobtrusive tannins. The Syrah provides structure and savoury depth, while Mourvèdre and Grenache contribute texture and lifted fruit. The wine remains energetic and easy to enjoy without sacrificing complexity.
Finish: Clean and gently savoury, with lingering red fruit, spice and a touch of dried herb character.
- Food Pairing : The Joostenberg Estate Family Blend 2022 is a versatile food wine that works particularly well with flame-grilled lamb chops, beef burgers, wood-fired pizza, slow-roasted pork and hearty vegetable dishes. Its moderate body and fresh acidity allow it to complement richer foods without overwhelming them, while the savoury notes and fine tannins provide enough structure for grilled meats. The wine's bright fruit profile also makes it a natural partner for tomato-based dishes and Mediterranean-inspired cooking.
