Jean Roi Prestige Rosé 2025
Jean Roi Prestige Rosé 2025 is produced by the Jean Roi label, part of the Anthonij Rupert Wines portfolio. The wine draws inspiration from the great rosés of Provence while expressing the unique character of the Cape. The vineyards are situated in the Riebeeksrivier area of the Swartland, where warm days, cooling evening breezes and a combination of clay and limestone-rich soils help preserve freshness while developing concentrated fruit flavours. The Jean Roi story honours Jean Roi, one of the French Huguenots who settled in the Cape in the late 1600s and whose legacy remains closely tied to the Franschhoek Valley. Crafted in a deliberately dry style, the wine combines careful vineyard selection with minimal colour extraction, indigenous yeast fermentation and a short period of lees maturation to create a rosé that is both vibrant and textural. The result is a wine that balances Old World inspiration with contemporary South African winemaking.
Colour: A delicate pale coral to pink blush with subtle salmon hues in the glass.
Nose: Expressive aromas of ruby grapefruit, raspberry and red berry fruit lead the way, followed by gentle floral notes and a touch of citrus zest.
Palate: Fresh and energetic, with flavours of ruby grapefruit, raspberry and ripe strawberry supported by lively acidity. A brief period on the lees contributes texture and roundness, giving the wine more depth than its pale appearance suggests. The fruit remains focused and clean, with a subtle savoury edge adding interest.
Finish: Long, dry and refreshing, finishing with citrus zest, a hint of white pepper and lingering red fruit notes.
- Food Pairing : Jean Roi Prestige Rosé 2025 is a versatile food wine that works particularly well with grilled prawns, line fish with lemon butter, summer salads, chicken skewers and Mediterranean-style platters. Its bright acidity cuts through richer dishes while the rounded texture complements seafood and poultry beautifully. The wine's citrus and red berry character also pairs naturally with fresh herbs, olives and lightly spiced dishes, making it an excellent choice for relaxed outdoor dining.
