Forager Red 2022
Blend : Red
Description
Forager is produced by African Pride Wines, with fruit sourced from dryland vineyards across Paarl, Wellington and Malmesbury in the Western Cape. The blend reflects a thoughtful, site-driven approach, bringing together Shiraz for structure and depth, with Grenache adding brightness and perfume.
The vineyards, many between 16 and 25 years old, grow in a mix of decomposed granite, shale and alluvial soils, helping to create both richness and freshness in the final wine. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in open-top stainless-steel tanks. Portions of the Shiraz are matured in older French and American oak barrels, while the Grenache is largely kept unoaked to preserve its lively fruit character.
The result is a modern Cape red blend that leans into Rhône-style influence without losing its South African identity - generous, savoury and approachable, with enough structure to develop over time.
Colour:
Deep ruby garnet with a bright crimson edge.
Nose:
Ripe cherry, blackberry and dark plum lead the aromatics, followed by white pepper, dried herbs, clove and a gentle leather note. Subtle vanilla spice from oak sits quietly in the background.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with juicy red berry fruit layered alongside darker bramble flavours. The Shiraz brings savoury spice and structure, while the Grenache softens the texture and lifts the wine with freshness. Tannins are supple rather than firm, making the wine generous without feeling heavy.
Finish:
Long, smooth and lightly perfumed, with lingering cherry, spice and dried herb notes.

Forager Red 2022
- Food Pairing : Forager Red 2022 works particularly well with slow-cooked or flame-grilled dishes where smoky, savoury flavours echo the wine’s spice and dark fruit profile. Try it with braaied lamb chops, beef short ribs, duck breast or a rich tomato-based oxtail stew. The supple tannins make it flexible enough for weeknight burgers or wood-fired pizza, while the freshness from the Grenache keeps the wine from feeling too heavy alongside richer dishes.
