Flagstone Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Flagstone Wines takes a vineyard-led approach to winemaking, sourcing grapes from selected sites across the Cape rather than relying on a single estate vineyard. For the Flagstone Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, the producer identifies Wellington and Stellenbosch as the source regions. These two areas offer complementary expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon, bringing together ripe fruit, structure and freshness. Music Room sits within Flagstone’s premium range and is made as a full-bodied, complex expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Flagstone’s approach places emphasis on the character of the fruit while using oak and maturation to build texture and complexity rather than overwhelm it. The wine is also made without animal-derived processing products, making it suitable for vegan wine drinkers.
Colour: Deep ruby to garnet red, with a concentrated core.
Nose: Blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum lead the aromatics, followed by notes of wild mint, dried herbs and subtle oak spice. The darker fruit character is complemented by the savoury, herbal edge associated with Cabernet Sauvignon.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with concentrated black fruit supported by firm but polished tannins. Blackcurrant and dark berry flavours sit at the centre, with herbal notes and oak-derived spice adding complexity. Fresh acidity keeps the richer fruit profile in check and gives the wine shape through the palate. Flagstone classifies Music Room towards the fuller-bodied, drier and more complex end of its tasting spectrum.
Finish: Persistent and savoury, with lingering dark berries, subtle mint, spice and fine-grained tannins.
- Food Pairing : The structure and dark fruit of Flagstone Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 make it particularly well suited to richer meat dishes. Try it with grilled sirloin or rib-eye steak, slow-roasted lamb, beef short ribs, venison or a hearty mushroom dish. Cabernet’s tannins work well with the richness of red meat, while its black fruit, herbal character and savoury oak notes complement charred flavours from the braai and herb-based sauces.
- Drink before: Cellaring potential: Approximately 6–10 years from vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon’s natural tannin and structure, together with the established style of Music Room, should allow the 2022 to develop well in bottle, although it can also be enjoyed now.
