Field and Flutter Chenin Blanc 2024
Produced by Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, Field & Flutter is part of Spier’s organic wine range, made with a strong focus on responsible farming and biodiversity. The vineyards lie in the Stellenbosch wine region, where a Mediterranean climate, mountain influences and varied soils provide favourable conditions for Chenin Blanc, helping the variety retain freshness while developing ripe, expressive fruit. The Field & Flutter range takes its name from Spier’s efforts to encourage biodiversity around its vineyards. Indigenous trees and shrubs have been planted alongside the vines, creating habitat for birds and wildlife. The wines are made to be approachable and fruit-driven, with the 2024 Chenin Blanc classified as a dry, unwooded style. Spier Farm Management’s Field & Flutter wines are certified under the Fair for Life programme.
Colour: Bright pale gold with a light straw hue.
Nose: Fresh citrus and quince lead the way, followed by ripe peach, golden apple, litchi and pineapple. There is a subtle floral and fresh-herb character adding interest without taking away from the fruit.
Palate: Dry, fresh and medium-bodied, with juicy citrus and stone-fruit flavours supported by lively acidity. Peach, golden apple and tropical litchi and pineapple notes give the wine plenty of fruit character, while its crisp acidity keeps the palate clean and refreshing.
Finish: Zesty and refreshing, with lingering citrus and green-apple notes and a clean, crisp finish.
- Food Pairing : The fresh acidity and medium-bodied fruit make Field & Flutter Chenin Blanc 2024 particularly easy to pair with food. Try it with grilled or fried fish, prawns or other shellfish, chicken pad Thai, a fresh avocado and smoked-trout salad, or a stone-fruit and soft-cheese salad. The wine’s citrusy acidity cuts through richer ingredients, while its peach, quince, litchi and pineapple flavours work naturally alongside fresh herbs, creamy cheese and gently spiced dishes.
