Doolhof Wine Estate sits in the Limietberg foothills near Wellington, where slow, even ripening on deep, mineral-rich soils helps produce expressive red wines. The Bloedklip (meaning “blood stone”) Malbec comes from an exceptional parcel of Malbec vines - low yields and precise vineyard selection give concentration, while careful winemaking (cold soak, gentle fermentations and thoughtful oak influence) lets fruit purity and varietal intensity shine. This bottling honours both the grape’s natural depth and Doolhof’s terroir-informed philosophy.

Colour: Deep garnet-purple, suggesting concentrated dark fruit and youthful depth on the palate.

Nose: Vibrant aromas of blackcurrant and plum combine with violet florals and a touch of cocoa and spice, giving an evocative first impression.

Palate: Full and rich yet finely tuned, with lush blackberry and plum flavours framed by balanced acidity and integrated tannins. Subtle spice and dark fruit layers are underscored by a mineral thread that keeps the wine poised.

Finish: Long and dry, echoing dark fruit and gentle spice with a clean, savoury tail that invites another sip.

  • Food Pairing : Doolhof Bloedklip Malbec 2023 pairs wonderfully with richly flavoured dishes that match its dark-fruit intensity and savoury edge. Grilled lamb cutlets with rosemary and cracked pepper echo the wine’s herb- and spice-tinged fruit, while a slow-braised beef brisket brings out its structured tannins and lingering finish. For a slightly gamey option, roast duck with berry-based sauce elevates both the meat and wine - the acidity and depth enhance each other without overwhelming.
  • Drink before: Enjoy now through to 2032; medium-term cellaring will integrate the tannins and add tertiary complexity.
  • Vintage: 2023
  • Manufacturer: Doolhof
  • Region: Wellington
  • Grapes used to make this wine were grown in: Deep, mineral-rich soils.
