The estate focuses on small-production releases that prioritise varietal expression, balance and drinkability rather than heavily worked wines.
The De Meye Cabernet Franc 2021 reflects the strengths of Stellenbosch Cabernet Franc, with vineyards benefiting from warm daytime conditions balanced by cooling afternoon breezes. The fruit is harvested by hand and vinified with a relatively gentle touch to preserve freshness and aromatic detail. Maturation in French oak helps soften the structure while allowing the naturally herbal and savoury profile of Cabernet Franc to remain central. The result is a wine that feels polished and expressive without losing its sense of place.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with bright garnet edges.
Nose:
Aromas of black cherry, red plum and cassis lead into classic Cabernet Franc notes of dried herbs, graphite and red pepper. Subtle hints of cedar, tobacco leaf and spice add complexity.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe dark berry fruit supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity. The wine shows a savoury herbal character through the mid-palate, balanced by juicy plum and blackcurrant flavours. Oak influence is restrained, contributing texture and gentle spice rather than sweetness.
Finish:
Dry and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, earthy spice and a lightly herbal finish.
