Darling Cellars The Old Grain Silo Darling 2019
Blend : Red
Description
Darling Cellars is situated on the cool, windswept hills of the Darling wine region on South Africa’s West Coast, where the Atlantic Ocean has a defining influence on vineyard conditions. The region experiences warm sunshine during the day and cooling ocean breezes in the afternoon, allowing grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and structure.
The Old Grain Silo range takes its name from one of the historic grain silos that form part of the region’s agricultural heritage. These wines aim to capture the bold yet balanced style that Darling is known for.
The Darling Cellars The Old Grain Silo Darling 2019 is a Cape-style blend led by Pinotage and Shiraz, with a small portion of Durif adding depth and colour. Each component was fermented separately after a cold soak, followed by extended skin contact to build structure. The wine was then matured for around 22 months in French and American oak barrels, allowing the fruit and tannins to integrate and develop complexity.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dense core and subtle garnet tones beginning to appear with development.
Nose:
Ripe red berries and plum lead the bouquet, followed by hints of black pepper, tobacco leaf and gentle oak spice.
Palate:
Full-bodied with generous red and dark fruit flavours. The tannins are soft and rounded, supporting notes of cherry, plum and subtle savoury spice with well-integrated oak.
Finish:
Long and smooth with lingering red fruit, spice and a touch of cigar box complexity.
