Nestled on the Ceres Plateau above 1 000m in the Western Cape, Cirrus Wines draws its name from the wispy cirrus clouds that sweep this unique terroir. High altitude growing sites, intense sunlight and cool night-time temperatures help preserve vibrant acidity and gently ripen the thin-skinned Pinot Noir grapes. Viticulture here is deliberately attentive, cultivating Pinot clones suited to these well-drained soils, while gentle winemaking - including a generous proportion of whole-berry and whole-cluster fermentation and maturation in seasoned French oak - lets the site’s purity and red fruit expression shine.

Colour: Pale ruby with translucent edges, characteristic of cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Nose: Bright aromatics of ripe strawberry and pomegranate interlace with hints of earth, sweet spice and subtle floral lift, suggesting both fruit intensity and refinement.

Palate: Medium-bodied and focused, the palate delivers juicy red cherry and cranberry flavours supported by vibrant acidity. Silky tannins and a refined mineral thread give structure without heaviness.

Finish: Long and dry, lingering with strawberry accents and a gentle spice-tinged nuance that keeps the finish engaging.

  • Food Pairing : Cirrus Pinot Noir 2023’s fresh acidity, red fruit core and silky tannins make it a versatile partner at the table. It pairs beautifully with roasted duck breast dressed with a cherry-berry reduction - the wine’s cherry brightness echoing the sauce - and also stands up well to grilled mushroom risotto or herb-crusted pork loin. For a lighter option, try it alongside pan-seared salmon or beetroot and goat’s cheese tart, where its vibrant fruit and earth-tinged notes bring harmony without overpowering the dish.
  • Drink before: Enjoy now through 2028–2030; good structure and cool climate suggests medium-term ageing will add complexity.
  • Vintage: 2023
  • Manufacturer: Rust en Vrede
  • Region: Ceres Plateau
  • Sugar Content: 1.9g/L
