Cape of Good Hope Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir 2022
Cape of Good Hope forms part of the renowned Anthonij Rupert Wines portfolio and focuses on expressing distinctive Cape vineyards through site-specific wines. The Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir comes from a unique vineyard in the Riebeeksrivier area of the Swartland, where elevated slopes, varied aspects and ancient soils create conditions that favour freshness, finesse and complexity rather than sheer power. While Pinot Noir is more commonly associated with cooler coastal regions, this carefully selected site demonstrates how the right combination of altitude, exposure and meticulous viticulture can produce a wine of elegance and restraint. Hand-harvested fruit and thoughtful oak maturation allow the vineyard character to remain at the forefront, resulting in a wine that balances New World fruit purity with an Old World sense of structure and nuance.
Colour: Bright translucent ruby with a youthful crimson edge.
Nose: Fragrant aromas of cherry, raspberry and red plum lead the way, followed by subtle floral notes, gentle spice, forest floor and a faint smoky nuance that adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Palate: Silky and refined, with flavours of ripe red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry supported by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. Layers of earthy savouriness, subtle spice and a touch of pepper emerge through the mid-palate, giving the wine both energy and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated, contributing texture rather than overt wood character.
Finish: Long, poised and persistent, leaving impressions of red berries, gentle spice and earthy complexity.
- Food Pairing : The Cape of Good Hope Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir 2022 pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its elegance and savoury complexity. Roast duck with cherry glaze, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto and herb-crusted pork fillet are all excellent choices. Its bright acidity cuts through richer textures, while the subtle earthy notes complement mushrooms and slow-roasted meats particularly well. For a South African braai alternative, try it with lightly smoked free-range chicken or lamb loin chops rather than heavily sauced red meats, allowing the wine's delicate fruit and fine structure to shine.
