Blaauwklippen Malbec 2022
Malbec
Description
At the foothills of Stellenbosch Mountain, Blaauwklippen Estate is one of South Africa’s oldest working wine farms, with viticultural roots stretching back to 1682. Its vineyards sit on a mix of high-potential Tukulu and classic Klapmuts soils - both deeply influenced by decomposed granite and Cape coastal breezes - giving grapes ripe, concentrated fruit with a cool-climate freshness. Winemaker Narina Cloete brings a balanced, thoughtful approach that honours this heritage terroir: hand-harvesting, careful site selection, and judicious use of French oak highlight the purity and textural richness of varieties like Malbec without unnecessary flourish.
Colour:
Deep ruby-garnet in the glass with inviting clarity and youthful vibrancy.
Nose:
The aroma opens with juicy dark fruits - mulberry, cassis and blueberry - leading into secondary notes of subtle dark chocolate, tobacco leaf and flinty mineral nuances.
Palate:
On the palate this Malbec carries ripe, plush dark fruit framed by chalky tannins and lively texture. The fruit is complemented by hints of savoury earth and gentle oak spice, giving depth without heaviness.
Finish:
The finish is scented and lingering, with a creamy flintiness and soft return of black fruit that holds through the last sip.

Blaauwklippen Malbec 2022
- Food Pairing : Blaauwklippen Malbec 2022 works beautifully with rich, charcoal-seared beef or lamb dishes that echo the wine’s dark fruit and tannic backbone, such as a pepper-crusted rump steak or grilled lamb chops. The savoury depth of a slow-braised oxtail potjie or a mushroom-laden bobotie adds textural contrast to the wine’s plush palate while matching its earthy notes. For something lighter but still satisfying, a creamy blue cheese-dressed pear and walnut salad provides refreshing acidity and a flavour bridge to the wine’s fruit and mineral character.
