Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is situated near Hermanus in the Walker Bay region, where cool maritime breezes and the influence of the Atlantic Ocean help create conditions suited to delicate varieties such as Pinot Noir. The estate’s vineyards span different elevations and soil types, allowing the winemaking team to work with distinct expressions of fruit and site. Pinot Noir is particularly sensitive to growing conditions and winemaking decisions. In a cool coastal setting, slower ripening can help preserve freshness and aromatic detail while developing the variety’s characteristic red-fruit flavours. Benguela Cove’s Estate Pinot Noir aims to express this coastal character through an elegant, fruit-focused style, with red cherry and subtle spice supported by a silky texture.

Colour: Bright ruby red, with a clear, youthful appearance and delicate garnet tones.
Nose: Fresh red cherry leads, accompanied by subtle raspberry and delicate spice. A gentle earthy note adds complexity, while the overall aromatic profile remains fresh and elegant.
Palate: Light to medium-bodied, with juicy red cherry and red berry flavours supported by refreshing acidity and fine, gentle tannins. The texture is silky rather than heavy, allowing the fruit to remain the focus. A subtle savoury and spicy character adds depth without detracting from the wine’s freshness.
Finish: Clean and refined, with lingering red cherry, a delicate touch of spice and a fresh, elegant finish.

  • Food Pairing : Benguela Cove Estate Pinot Noir 2025 pairs beautifully with roast chicken, especially when served with thyme, garlic and roasted vegetables. Its fresh acidity and delicate tannins complement the meat without overpowering it. Pan-fried salmon with a mushroom sauce is another excellent match, as the wine’s red-fruit character works well with the richness of the fish and the earthy mushrooms. For a South African braai, try grilled pork chops or lightly seasoned lamb kebabs. A mushroom risotto or a mild, creamy cheese board also makes a lovely choice, allowing the wine’s subtle spice and silky texture to shine.
  • Drink before: Cellaring potential: A provisional guide is to enjoy it young for its fresh fruit, with short-term cellaring possible if stored correctly.

  • Region: Walker Bay, Western Cape
  • Medals Won: Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards 2026: Trophy Winner.
