Balblair 25yr
Whisky : Scottish
Description
Balblair Distillery is one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, founded in 1790 in the northern Highlands. The distillery has built a reputation for elegant, fruit-driven whiskies that favour refinement, texture and layered maturation over overt peat or aggressive cask influence. Its style is typically associated with orchard fruit, citrus and waxy richness - characteristics that become more pronounced with extended ageing.
The Balblair 25-Year-Old represents the oldest expression in the distillery’s core range. The whisky is first matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before spending additional time in Spanish oak, allowing greater depth and complexity to develop without losing the distillery’s signature freshness. Bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, it presents a polished and mature style that balances richness with restraint.
Colour:
Deep copper with warm amber highlights.
Nose:
Overripe apricot, orange peel and dark liquorice lead the aromatics, followed by polished oak, saddle wax and gentle tobacco leaf notes. There is richness and maturity without excessive sweetness.
Palate:
Full-bodied and oily in texture, with flavours of dark chocolate, praline and blood orange unfolding gradually across the palate. Toasted oak, soft spice and citrus oil add depth while maintaining freshness and balance throughout.
Finish:
Long, warming and refined, with lingering dark chocolate, orange zest and gentle oak spice carrying through the finish.

- Food Pairing : Balblair 25 Year Old is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to fully open its layered aromatics and textured palate. The whisky pairs particularly well with dark chocolate desserts, roasted nuts or mature hard cheeses, where its citrus and praline notes can shine alongside richer flavours. It also works beautifully as an after-dinner whisky with fruitcake, caramelised desserts or alongside a cigar, where the mature oak and tobacco nuances feel especially complementary.
