Cape Town and the Cape Wine Route are known around the world as a collection of the most stunning wine regions around. The most famous of these farms tend to be in Stellenbosch, however some of the oldest and highest quality wines are produced just 15 minutes form the city centre. For those who want to experience the true peninsula wines, this is your route to pure wine bliss.

Groot Constantia

Groot Constantia is the oldest wine producing estate in South Africa. Originally owned by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the Cape Colony. In a location recognised by many as prime wine country, the farm has been producing wine for nearly 200 years, with the produce being sought across the world, the farms illustrious history includes supplying wine to Napoleon Bonaparte. Today Groot Constantia produces an array of award winning whites and reds that are shipped around the world to waiting enthusiasts. A sought-after wine from a sought-after farm, showing the true majesty of the Constantia Valley. Whether a day out tasting the wares or enjoying some nature, Groot Constantia and its sister farm Klein Constantia gives you some of the most picturesque wine experiences around perched on the mountain side looking out over the stunning False Bay area.

Beau Constantia

This boutique farm’s vines are planted on some of the finest wine making slopes in the Cape and is known for its panoramic views over False Bay and the leafy Southern Suburbs. On the slopes of the famed Cape Mountain range and home to some of the best wines around, this is a place to be enjoyed in every way. Another farm destroyed by wild fires in the early 2000’s, Beau Constantia was rebuilt from the ground up and now boasts a full complement of world class reds and whites, reclaiming its name at the top.

Constantia Uitsig

One of the handful of farms in the Constantia Valley wine region, Constantia Uitsig is one of the farms that were created after former governor Simon van der Stel’s Constantia was broken up into smaller estates after his death. The estate which runs alongside Klein and Groot Constantia is situated in one of the most green and beautiful areas on the peninsula. As an award-winning farm, Uitsig produces a host of white wines, as well as a great red blend. Uitsig is also home to the recently opened Open Door restaurant and a bike park for cycling enthusiasts.

Cape Point Vineyards

Just south of the Constantia Valley, in Noordhoek, lies Cape Point Vineyards. A jewel on the coastal stretch, kept cool by the refreshing Atlantic breeze blowing over the land, the farm is perfectly situated to produce award winning white wines. Boasting panoramic views of the Cape Peninsula and oceans, as well as unbelievable sunsets over the Atlantic, the farm also includes a restaurant and function venue, so guests can enjoy every stunning moment.

Buitenverwachting

Another farm that was part of the subdivision of Constantia after Van der Stel’s passing, Buitenverwachting (Dutch for ‘beyond expectation’) has had an illustrious, 250-year love affair with making wine. The farm flourished as a wine farm over time, and towards the end of the previous century, the Mueller family restored the farm to its former glory and cultivated its first grape harvest in more than 30 years. Today Buitenverwachting produces internationally renowned white wines, and along with the winery, the farm houses a very popular restaurant.
