Heritage Meets Vintage at Rustenberg Estate

Climb high up into the sloping vineyards at Rustenberg  Estate and you will be met with a spectacular view. Stellenbosch spreads out beneath you and if you peer hard enough, Table Mountain is visible in the distance.  A stunning view from a stunning wine farm.

Rustenberg Estate is a centuries old wine estate in Stellenbosch. The Simonsberg Mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the scenic vineyards.

The large 880 hectare estate is officially a South African National Heritage Site and has a wine producing history dating back to 1682.

Today, with the Barlow family at the helm, Rustenberg proudly produces a range of premium wines consistently met with great reviews.  The range includes site specific wines, the flagship range and the broader regional range.

The Five Soldiers Chardonnay is notable for its power and complexity while the Peter Barlow Cabernet Sauvignon – named for the Barlow family member who originally bought the farm in 1941 – is described as rich and robust. Visitors can wonder the grounds before heading to the tasting center to experience the wines which are aged to perfection; tastes which ring true to the quality and style characteristic of Rustenberg.

While the Cape Winelands are a beautiful destination in general, Rustenberg is home to spectacularly stunning grounds. Nestled at the base of the Simonsberg Mountains, vines have been planted along the slopes which allow the grapes to develop enhanced taste profiles.

Made up of vineyards, pastures, and historical Cape Dutch-style buildings, Rustenberg has also committed a huge area of the estate to conservation land. Fynbos grows across the landscape and visitors can keep an eye out for the resident wildlife like the Steppe Buzzards and Cape Leopard.

In addition to all of this natural beauty there are picturesque gardens on site.

Schoongezicht Garden is open to the public daily while the Private Rustenberg Gardens are only open to the public on the annual Rustenberg Open Day. Both gardens draw inspiration from elegant English style plantings. Visitors can spend hours admiring the beautiful gardens.

Rustenberg Estate is open for tastings Monday – Sunday. With a rich heritage, distinct wines and breathtaking surroundings, Rustenberg is an unforgettable wine-tasting destination.
