Waterford Estate lies on the Helderberg slopes of Stellenbosch, where warm days, cooling ocean influence and varied soils create the conditions for expressive yet structured wines. The estate is known for combining classic winemaking discipline with a distinctly South African sense of place, producing wines with polish, balance and longevity.
The Pebble Hill range reflects a more approachable side of Waterford, while still carrying the estate’s hallmark attention to detail. The 2022 vintage draws fruit from selected vineyards on the estate as well as hand-picked Stellenbosch sites, bringing together Mediterranean and Bordeaux varieties for complexity and freshness. Matured in older French oak, the wine focuses on texture and harmony rather than overt wood character.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with youthful brightness and a healthy crimson rim.
Nose:
Aromatic notes of sweet spice, black cherry, plum and red berries rise first, followed by hints of vanilla, dried herbs and cedar.
Palate:
Juicy and generous, with ripe dark fruit, cassis and mulberry supported by smooth tannins. The blend’s Mediterranean components bring lift and freshness, while the Bordeaux varieties add depth and structure. Medium-bodied with a supple, polished feel.
Finish:
Lingering and savoury, finishing with blackcurrant, spice and soft oak warmth.
