Crafted by Three Ships Whisky at the historic James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, South Africa, this 11 Year Old Shiraz Cask Finish is part of the annual Master’s Collection of special releases. It begins life as a traditional South African single malt - matured for eight years in American oak barrels - before spending a further three years finishing in seasoned Shiraz wine casks sourced from Cape Winelands vineyards. This secondary maturation draws vibrant spice and red-fruit depth from the wine wood, marrying it with the malt’s natural backbone and a subtle touch of peat influence for complexity. The warm Cape climate also helps to mellow and integrate flavours at a relatively young age.
Colour: Rich rose-gold hue that hints at its wine cask heritage.
Nose: Harmonious interplay of cherries and plush red fruit, roasted nuts, Christmas-cake-like spice, with hints of smoky barbequed meat and subtle orange zest.
Palate: Juicy red fruit leads, backed by cloves, white pepper and savoury notes of liquorice, treacle and raisins. A warm peat undercurrent adds depth without overwhelming.
Finish: Remarkably complex and lingering, with a savoury warmth and gentle peat echoing through the smooth, rich finish.
