Sutherland Vineyards is the cool-climate offshoot of Thelema Mountain Vineyards, planted high above the Atlantic-cooled Elgin valley where ocean breezes and well-drained Bokkeveld shale and Glenrosa soils help aromatic varieties ripen with clarity and refreshing acidity. Thelema’s approach here is thoughtful and site-driven, using traditional barrel fermentation and extended lees contact to build texture and complexity without masking the vibrant fruit. This Viognier-Roussanne blend balances the exotic charm of Viognier with the richness and structure Roussanne brings, reflecting Elgin’s distinctive terroir and a winemaking philosophy that values finesse and expressive detail.
Colour: Pale straw with a hint of green sheen, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose: Perfumed and inviting with fragrant peach and apricot, dried pear, citrus blossom and subtle jasmine spice, lifted by floral notes and light almond nuances.
Palate: Medium-bodied with juicy stone fruits and orchard characters, a creamy texture from lees ageing and gentle oak influence, balanced by vibrant acidity and hints of spice and white pepper that keep the profile lively.
Finish: Clean and persistent with citrus zest and orchard fruit lingering, and a soft mineral thread that underpins the final impression.
