Saronsberg Provenance Shiraz 2023 (Top 12)
Shiraz / Syrah
Description
Saronsberg Wine Cellar is located in the scenic Upper Breede River Valley near Tulbagh, where vineyards are framed by the mountain that gives the estate its name. This valley combines warm inland sunshine with cool southern breezes and varied soils - factors that help Shiraz develop depth of flavour while retaining freshness and spice.
The Provenance Shiraz 2023 reflects Saronsberg’s thoughtful approach to site expression. Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards planted on clay, sandy-loam and gravelly soils, hand-harvested and carefully vinified to show both varietal character and regional nuance. Matured in French oak barrels with a balanced mix of new and seasoned wood, the wine aims for richness and structure without domination by oak.
Colour:
Deep ruby red, clear and inviting.
Nose:
A rich bouquet of plum and dark berry fruit opens first, with cassis and a touch of vanilla. Subtle spice, clove and white pepper weave through, alongside delicate floral hints and an undercurrent of fynbos.
Palate:
Full-bodied and plush, the palate carries a harmonious interplay of ripe red and black fruits - think bramble and plum compote - framed by soft-textured tannins. Spice notes, a hint of pepper and gentle oak integrate seamlessly, giving both richness and balance.
Finish:
Silky and sustained, finishing with lingering berry flavours, gentle spice and a touch of savoury complexity.

Saronsberg Provenance Shiraz 2023 (Top 12)
- Food Pairing : Saronsberg Provenance Shiraz 2023 pairs particularly well with richly flavoured grilled and roasted meats where its ripe fruit and spice complement the savoury depth. Try it alongside flame-grilled lamb chops marinated with rosemary and garlic, or a succulent braised short rib - the wine’s smooth tannins and full body will balance the richness. For something heartier, aim for a beef potjie with root vegetables or a spicy lamb bobotie, where pepper and berry notes in the wine echo the dish’s warm spices while the acidity keeps the palate refreshed.
