Rainbow's End Banghoek Red Blend 2023
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Rainbow’s End is a boutique, family-run estate owned by the Malan family, perched high on the slopes of the Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Vineyards sit between 350 and 540 metres above sea level, where cooler mountain air and significant day–night temperature swings help preserve freshness and structure in the wines.
The soils here - predominantly deep red oakleaf with granite influence - encourage good drainage and concentrated fruit. Rainbow’s End focuses almost exclusively on red wines, produced in small volumes with careful vineyard management and thoughtful oak use. The Banghoek Red Blend reflects this approach: accessible in style, but still shaped by altitude, site, and a clear sense of place.
Colour:
Dark ruby with a bright crimson rim, showing youthful clarity.
Nose:
Blackberry and plum lead, with hints of red cherry and a subtle savoury edge. Light spice and a touch of leather add depth without overwhelming the fruit.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a firm, slightly grippy structure. Dark berry fruit carries through, supported by fresh acidity and fine tannins. There’s a gentle herbal note and a touch of oak spice, giving the wine shape without heaviness.
Finish:
Clean and moderately long, with red fruit and a lightly savoury, dry finish.

- Food Pairing : Rainbow's End Banghoek Red Blend 2023 is well suited to everyday, flavourful dishes. It pairs easily with grilled chicken, beef bolognese, or a simple steak with chips, where the wine’s structure complements savoury richness without overpowering the dish. It also works well with tomato-based meals like lasagne or even a wood-fired pizza, as the acidity keeps the palate fresh while the dark fruit echoes the sweetness of cooked tomatoes.
