Perdeberg Fortitude Fortified Chenin Blanc 2023
Chenin Blanc
Description
Perdeberg Wines lies on the slopes surrounding Paarl Mountain, an area known for its warm climate and ancient granite soils that produce richly flavoured Chenin Blanc. Founded in 1941 and historically nicknamed “Home of Chenin Blanc”, Perdeberg has long championed the variety through a range of expressions, from fresh dry wines to richly styled fortified bottlings.
The Fortitude Fortified Chenin Blanc reflects the estate’s exploration of Chenin Blanc’s versatility. Grapes are harvested at full ripeness to ensure concentration and natural sweetness. Fermentation is halted through fortification with grape spirit, preserving the grape’s natural sugars while elevating the alcohol level.
The Perdeberg Fortitude Fortified Chenin Blanc 2023 was matured in oak barrels to allow gentle oxidative development, building layers of dried fruit, honey and nutty complexity while maintaining the grape’s bright acidity.
Colour:
Deep golden amber with brilliant clarity and slow, viscous legs in the glass.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of honey, apricot preserve and orange peel lead the bouquet, followed by notes of toasted almonds, caramel and warm spice.
Palate:
Lusciously sweet and full-bodied, with flavours of dried apricot, marmalade and baked apple. The richness is balanced by Chenin Blanc’s natural acidity, preventing the wine from feeling overly heavy while adding lift and freshness.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering notes of honey, caramelised citrus and gentle nutty complexity.

- Food Pairing : The richness and sweetness of Perdeberg Fortitude Fortified Chenin Blanc 2023 make it an excellent partner for dessert or cheese. It pairs beautifully with baked apple tart, crème brûlée or apricot-based desserts, where the wine’s honeyed fruit echoes the flavours of the dish. For a savoury option, try it with blue cheese or mature hard cheeses, as the sweetness balances the saltiness while the acidity keeps the pairing lively. It also works well with toasted nuts or almond biscotti, making it a natural choice as a relaxed after-dinner wine.
