Founded in the 18th century and refined under the guidance of Bordeaux consultant Pierre Lurton alongside cellar master Henry Kotzé, Morgenster crafts wines that combine varietal purity with elegant structure. Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2020 is a quintessential Bordeaux-style red from Stellenbosch, marrying Merlot’s generous fruit with the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Fruit-driven and approachable, yet layered and age-worthy, this wine reflects both careful vineyard sourcing and thoughtful maturation in French oak.
Colour: Rich ruby-garnet with inviting depth.
Nose: A beguiling bouquet of ripe cherries and cassis is complemented by fragrant strawberry tart notes, subtle vanilla, cinnamon spice and a hint of liquorice - showing both varietal fruit and gentle oak influence.
Palate: Medium-full-bodied, with polished dark fruit at the forefront and supple tannins framing flavours of plum, mulberry and sweet berry compote. Integrated acidity adds lift, while hints of clove and cedar from French oak deepen complexity.
Finish: Smooth and lingering, with balanced tannin structure and persistent red and black fruit that stay with you through to the close.
